Experience Borneo’s virgin jungle on a budget…Lupa Masa is an eco friendly camp and a nature lover’s dream with rare and endemic wildlife, rustic accommodation, clear cool rivers, swimming underneath waterfalls, orchids, hikes, and epic nightwalks that will put you up close and personal with exotic plant and animal life that flourishes in this area.

Our lovely eco-camp is nestled between two crystal clear rivers just on the border of Kinabalu National Park. Lupa Masa is an off the beaten path destination that can only be reached on foot. There are no cars here, no wifi, and no worries. Lupa Masa truly puts you in touch with nature; so much so, that you will “forget time”.

Lupa Masa Rainforest camp translates from the Malay language to “forget time”. Lupa Masa provides travelers with a diverse and beautiful jungle location only 45 minutes trek from Poring Hot Springs.

Spend your days relaxing in the river, trekking to unique locations, embarking on night time wildlife safaris, or learning jungle survival skills. We have something for everyone at Lupa Masa Rainforest Camp.

The camp provides tent or basic chalet accommodation and is regularly rated by travelers as a must see location in Sabah. Our guests span from world renowned researchers to first time jungle enthusiasts who come for our rare and unique animals, endemic plants, natural rivers, waterfalls, and stunning jungle beauty bordered by Malaysia’s first UNESCO world heritage site, Kinabalu Park.

Learn about the ecosystem from our knowledgeable staff while supporting our sustainability initiatives as this camp features sustainable accommodation built from repurposed materials, mini hydro power, and an emphasis on conservation of wildlife and plantlife found in one of the most biodiverse locations in the world.

Lupa Masa is a laid back place.  Other than the 3:00PM meeting time, all times are approximate and you are really free to spend your day as you see fit or participate in the activities we offer.

Day 1:  Poring – Lupa Masa Jungle Camp

  • 3:00PM Poring, Ranau: Meet camp staff at the Poring Meeting point, Nongling Restaurant.  There will be a local guide waiting for you there. From Nongling our staff will lead you to the camp which is about 30-45 minutes trek through beautiful rainforest.  On the way, the guide will help to spot any wildlife as well as teach you about local plants and their traditional uses. You will have a few hours of leisure time to explore on your own, swim in the river, or just relax.
  • Vegetarian dinner of locally sourced vegetables is usually served around 7 PM  After dinner, you will be taken for a guided night walk to see some of Borneo’s most unique creatures.

Day 2: Lupa Masa Jungle Camp – Poring

  • 7:00-8:00 AM: Vegetarian breakfast.  Afterwards, you are free to roam, trek, swim, or relax
  • 11:00 AM: Check out and return to Poring.

  • Survival Skills Training:  Our experienced guides will teach you two of the essential skills necessary to survive in the jungle.  This is an interactive experience. Once you are instructed, then it’s your turn to put your new skills into practice.
  • Following the training and lunch, the rest of the day is yours to roam, relax, or take a dip in the river.
  • 7:00 pm Dinner at the camp.
  • After dinner, the guided nightwalk will again be available.

Day 3:  Lupa Masa Jungle Camp – Poring

  • 11:00 AM: Check out and return to Poring.
