About the wildlife:

The Borneo Wildlife Adventure at Deramakot offers you the chance to see not only Borneo’s big name species, but also rare and elusive species that are nearly impossible to see anywhere else.  Here is a list of Borneo wildlife you have the potential to spot (These are just a few.   • Orangutan – critically endangered
  • Bornean Pygmy Elephant – endangered

  • Colugo (flying lemur) – least concern

  • Sambar Deer – vulnerable
  • Banteng (Jungle Cow – estimated less than 300 in Sabah) – endangered

About the location:

Deramakot Forest Reserve is owned by the Sabah Forestry Department.  It is a sustainably managed forest, certified by the Forest Stewardsip Council and is a perfect example of how sustainable forest management can promote conservation of wildlife.

Deramakot acts as a haven for Borneo wildlife as forested habitat in the surrounding areas continues to be lost.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kota Kinabalu – Telupid – Deramakot Forest Reserve

  • Pick up from Sabah Kota Kinabalu hotel, proceed to Telupid. Journey approximately 4-5 hours.
  • Lunch in Telupid
  • Transfer to 4×4 for final leg to Deramakot.
  • Check-in
  • Dinner.
  • Night safari, in search of nocturnal wildlife.

Day 2:

  • Wake up early for a morning walk or continue on 4WD to witness sunrise and search for wildlife.
  • Return to Chalet for breakfast
  • Optional activities : Self-walking around the chalet, or you can hike a trail around the main complex area.
  • Lunch.
  • Optional activity : Afternoon river cruise (Subject to availability)
  • Back to the chalet and dinner.
  • Night safari, in search of nocturnal wildlife.
  • Back to chalet.

Day 3:  Deramakot Forest Reserve – Telupid – Kota Kinabalu

  • Wake up early for a morning walk.
  • Return to the chalet for breakfast
  • 9am : Check out.
  • Transfer to Telupid
  • Lunch.
  • Transfer to Kota Kinabalu.
