Turtle Island Conservation Project
Going to Turtle Island gives you the chance to have a meaningful experience and get involved with conservation efforts while staying on a stunning tropical island.
The Turtle Island Conservation Project Experience is an island stay that matters. In collaboration with the Walai Penyu conservation project, we take you to a turtle conservation park located on a beautiful tropical island off of Sabah’s former capital city, Sandakan. The park is a safe sanctuary for the both the endangered Green and Hawksbill turtles.
In addition to enjoying pristine tropical beaches, you will get to participate in turtle conservation in a place where turtles are under real threat.
This is a fun and unique location with its “glamping” style accommodation and education area for turtle conservation. Spend the day enjoying a swim, snorkel or relax on the beach and if you’re lucky, spend the evening sending baby hatchlings to the ocean to start their lifecycle.
If you’re really lucky, the ranger will locate a mother turtle laying eggs and you will get a special experience helping get her eggs properly buried in the sand.
Day 1: Sandakan – Turtle Island
- Pickup from your hotel in Sandakan and transfer to a boat at the jetty at Sandakan Yacht Club.
- Upon arrival on Libaran island, you’ll be free to explore this island paradise.
- Catch the stunning sunset over the ocean and once the sun is down, assist with releasing baby turtles. If you’re lucky, the ranger will call with a mother turtle coming to shore.
Day 2: Libaran Island – Sandakan
- Enjoy your breakfast by the beach and then check out. Leave nothing but your footprints, collect nothing but remarkable memories and the peace of mind that you have helped make Borneo.
