Turtle Island Conservation Project

The Turtle Islands are located off the east coast of Sabah, Borneo, near Sandakan.  Libaran Island stands apart for its commitment to sea turtle conservation. This a private conservation area with support from the local island community to increase turtle populations with a transparent plan to monitor and protect turtle landings on its beaches. Top Peak Travel supports these and other sustainable conservation locations in Borneo by offering our traveler community the opportunity to visit and assist conservation efforts.

Going to Turtle Island gives you the chance to have a meaningful experience and get involved with conservation efforts while staying on a stunning tropical island.

Tour Details:

The Turtle Island Conservation Project Experience is an island stay that matters.  In collaboration with the Walai Penyu conservation project, we take you to a turtle conservation park located on a beautiful tropical island off of Sabah’s former capital city, Sandakan.  The park is a safe sanctuary for the both the endangered Green and Hawksbill turtles.

In addition to enjoying pristine tropical beaches, you will get to participate in turtle conservation in a place where turtles are under real threat.

This is a fun and unique location with its “glamping” style accommodation and education area for turtle conservation. Spend the day enjoying a swim, snorkel or relax on the beach and if you’re lucky, spend the evening sending baby hatchlings to the ocean to start their lifecycle.

If you’re really lucky, the ranger will locate a mother turtle laying eggs and you will get a special experience helping get her eggs properly buried in the sand.
