Jungle Trekking on Crocker Range National Park’s Salt Trail

Our Salt Trail expedition in Crocker Range National Park is for the intrepid traveler looking for a challenging trek, passing through untouched villages (some accessible only by foot), clear mountain rivers, and of course, Borneo jungle.

You won’t find a starbucks or wifi, instead, you will find an unforgettably authentic experience for the taking. We only recommended travelers with solid fitness levels attempt to tackle this tour to follow the historic footsteps of local villagers who traded their produce and wears by hauling them to the sea along this route as far back as the verbal history goes.

The Crocker Range National Park is a trekker’s dream. At 1399 square kilometers, the Crocker Range Park is the largest national park in Sabah. The historic Salt Trail Trek takes you right through the heart of the Crocker Range.

The Salt Trail will have you crossing a number of beautiful rivers, sleeping in rural village homestay style accommodation and walking through varying types of jungle from tropical to montane. Along the way, you will get to see these forest types change before your eyes. Wildlife can be spotted throughout and pitcher plants and orchids dot the higher elevations.

This trek does require a certain level of fitness but for those who choose to take on the challenge they will be rewarded. Expect the terrain to be tough at times and the trekking time day to day between 4 – 8 hours depending on your fitness and river levels. Your experienced jungle guide will point out wildlife, edible jungle plants, and share the history of the Salt Trail during your 5 days in the Crocker Range National Park. This activity is for those travelers looking for a one of a kind, off the beaten path adventure in Borneo.
