Day 01: Arrival Kuala Lumpur
We’re sure you will be looking to rest a bit after your journey to Malaysia, so we will pick you up from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and take you to the city where you can check in to your hotel and relax or explore the city.
Day 02: Kuala Lumpur City Tour, Batu Cave and Firefly Trip
On your second day, we start you off with a tour of the main sights in Kuala Lumpur, including the Petronas Twin Towers, the National Monument of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur’s National Palace and the impressive Batu Caves. A limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia.
In the late afternoon, we’ll take you to Kuala Selangor. When night falls, you will go for a boat cruise to experience trees filled with thousands of twinkling fireflies. The twinkling fireflies make the trees look like Christmas trees.
Following the river cruise, you will have dinner and then head back to your hotel.
Day 03: Melaka City Tour
On Day 3 we take you for a day trip to the historic port town of Melaka for a tour through this beautiful city. Your city tour will take you through the heart of Old Town, with its unique mixture of Portuguese, Dutch, Islamic and Chinese architecture. Don’t miss the fabled streets of Chinatown, or the Portuguese-influenced St. Paul’s Church, reached by a breezy climb up Bukit St Paul.
Throughout your tour of Melaka, your guide will recommend tasty local specialties, like Nonya delicacies, sumptuous satays, fresh seafood, and local fruit juices.
Day 04: Kuala Lumpur – Kuching
For your fourth day, you will fly east from Kuala Lumpur to Borneo for a stay in the “City of Cats”, Kuching. This scenic riverside city is located in the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
When you arrive in Kuching we will pick you up and take you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours. We recommend heading out to the waterfront in the evening to listen to some tunes from the street performers and sample Sarawak delicacies from the street vendors.
Day 05: Kuching – Bako National Park
Day 5 is all about nature as you head to Bako National Park for some hiking along this beautiful jungle covered coastline.
Here in Bako, you will spend the day trekking in search of epic views, soft sand beaches, and wildlife like the endemic Proboscis monkey.
After you visit Bako, we’ll take you back to Kuching in the late afternoon where the rest of the day will be yours.
Day 06: Kuching – Sarawak Cultural Village
Sarawak enjoys a unique and diverse culture. For your sixth day, you will head to the Sarawak cultural village to immerse yourself in Sarawak’s diverse cultural heritage. There you will enjoy traditional ethnic dances and see demonstrations of handicrafts from bamboo carving to straw weaving. Learn about the everyday lives of Sarawak’s indigenous peoples and get involved with activities like learning how to shoot a Penan blowpipe or playing an traditional guitar known as the Orang Ulu sape.
Day 07: Kuching – Kota Kinabalu
Day 7 will find you on your way to Malaysia’s easternmost state, Sabah. You will catch a quick flight (about an hour) to Sabah’s capital city Kota Kinabalu. We will pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel.
The rest of the day is yours to explore the city. We recommend heading down to the Filipino market to eat fresh seafood and shop for locally made handicrafts. If the open air market is not your thing, you can grab a taxi to one of the nearby shopping malls.
Day 08: Kota Kinabalu – Kundasang
Morning of day 8 will find you on your way to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kinabalu National Park. The park is a treasure trove of plants and animals that only exist there. It is crowned by the 4095m, Mt. Kinabalu.
At Kinabalu National Park, you will visit the incredible botanical garden and have the opportunity to wander the trails to see the unique montane forest that surrounds mount Kinabalu.
After lunch you will head to the other side of Kinabalu National Park for a visit to the tiny village of Poring and the naturally occurring hot springs. Here at Poring, you can visit the canopy walkway and take a dip in the hot springs.
You will stay the night in the cool mountain air of Kundasang.
Day 09: Kundasang – Sandakan
Following your night in the highlands of Borneo, we take you back down to the lowlands and to the coastal city of Sandakan. Once you arrive, the day is yours to relax or check out this city by the sea.
Day 10: Sandakan – Sepilok
For day 10 you will visit Sepilok to go to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center for a close-up of our closest relatives, the orangutan and the world’s smallest bear species.
After you have witnessed the orangutans being fed, our guide will take you to the Sandakan War Memorial which was built in honor of the prisoners of war who perished in what is known as the Sandakan Death March. Here you will learn a bit of the history of Borneo during World War 2.
Day 11: Sandakan – Kinabatangan River
Late morning on Day 11, it’s time to go to one of Borneo’s best wildlife spotting sites, the Kinabatangan River. You will hop on a boat at the Sandakan Yacht Club for a 1.5hrs boat ride to Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort. This scenic boat ride is one of the highlights of the trip as you follow Sandakan’s scenic coastline and then head up river on a channel of the Kinabatangan River to arrive at this lovely resort.
Following your arrival, the afternoon is yours to relax and take it all in. In the late afternoon, the expert guides will take you on an evening boat cruise to spot wildlife such as the Borneo pygmy elephant, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys, and more.
After dinner, you will head out on the boat again for a night cruise. The night cruise offers you the opportunity to see a completely different type of wildlife that only comes out at night!
Day 12: Kinabatangan River
Day 12 starts of with a dawn river cruise. This cruise is the best opportunity to see the vast amount of birds that call the river home. If you are lucky, you may see hornbills or the critically endangered Storm’s Stork.
In the early evening, you will gear up for your last river cruise. Be sure to take in the serenity of the river under the waning sun and if the weather is good, be prepared for one of Borneo’s epic sunsets.
After dinner, you will follow your guide for a night walk in the forest surrounding the resort. This will be a great opportunity to spot small nocturnal creatures including the tarsier, slow loris, snakes, and a wide array of strange and interesting insects.
Day 13: Departure
After breakfast, you will hop on the boat back to Sandakan. From there, our driver will shuttle you to the Sandakan airport for your departure flight.
