Day 1: Kota Kinabalu – Kiulu

Morning pickup from hotel for transport to Kiulu River. Journey take 1 ½ -2-hour drive. Arrive at starting point. Safety Briefing will be given by professional river guide and signing of Liability Release form. Rafting commences around 10.30 am. Excursions takes about 2 hours to the ending point. At the ending point, freshen-up and ready for Lunch. After lunch on the riverbanks head back to Kota Kinabalu for a free afternoon.

Day 2: Kota Kinabalu – Kundasang

9 am pickup from the hotel to Kiau Village, reaching at Kiau Village around 12 pm. Lunch at the village then trek up to the jungle camp while the local guide teaches you survival skills, such as looking for edible and medicinal plants, fish trapping and more. In the jungle you can go for a dip in the river to cool off then enjoy the locally cooked dinner in the relaxed jungle.

Day 3: Kiau

After breakfast track back to the village via the rubber, pineapple and (seasonal) rice farms, reaching at the village by noon. After a home cooked lunch, freshen up then take a walk in the village. Have dinner with a local family and get into the slow pace of village life and prepare for your climb tomorrow.

Day 4: Kiau – Kundasang

After breakfast transfer 20 minutes to the Sabah National park headquarters to register for the climb. Start on the trek with your local guide up the beautiful and challenging Mount Kinabalu. Pack lunch for the climb and buffet style dinner at your lodging tonight, try and get to bed early for that sunrise summit on Day 5.

Day 5: Kundasang – Ranau

Early morning summit (weather permitting) then your descent back down the mountain. By late afternoon transfer to a relaxing Slagon homestay an hour’s drive from the park headquarters for a much needed rest.

Day 6: Ranau – Kinabatangan

Today you’ll travel overland through the interior of the island to reach the Kinabatangan River. Your lodge is located just beside the river where you’ll be searching for many of the indigenous wildlife of Borneo such as proboscis monkey, pygmy elephants, hornbill birds and many more in their natural habitat. Take some time to rest up from the climb in this relaxing natural setting.

Day 7: Kinabatangan

Your morning will start with the call of Birds, Insets, Macaques and Animals. Spend the day on and around the river searching for wildlife and enjoying the river setting.

Day 8: Kinabatangan – Lahad Datu

Travel by minibus to Tabin Wildlife reserve, one of the largest protected areas for wildlife on the island. Check into an attractive timber lodge at Tabin Wildlife Resort, nestled within the rainforest beside the Lipad River, this lovely setting is home to a surprising variety of birds, insects and small mammals, even right beside the buildings of the resort. Discover the rich variety of jungle herbs, some endemic, used for generations by local folks for the treatment of various ailments. In the afternoon, visit the active Lipad mud volcano which provides a mineral salt lick for wildlife. After trekking through the rainforest for 20 minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano which is frequented by wildlife and birds.

Day 9: Lahad Datu

After breakfast, a drive to the core area for animal’s spotting and for photo session before trekking through the lush green rainforest known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad Waterfall. Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy a natural and refreshing shower under the waterfall. Alternatively explore the surrounding vegetation or just relax. After lunch, depart to Lahad Datu airport

Day 10: Lahad Datu – Kuching

Today you will travel by air from Lahad Datu to Kuching. Kuching is your introduction to the second Malaysian Borneo state of Sarawak, it is the capital city of Sarawak. In the evening take a sunset cruise down the river running through the city of Kuching.

Day 11: Kuching

After breakfast, drive from Kuching for about 45 minute in the direction of Damai beach at the mouth of the Santubong and Batang Salak River. There is a chance to spot the elusive and rare Irrawaddy dolphin, which is quite common in this area. Sightings are, however, not guaranteed. Head out to the South China Sea for Satang Island. This island is part of the Talang – Satang National Park and is a turtle nesting ground. Green Turtles and the rare Hawksbill Turtles lay their eggs on Satang Island. See the turtle hatchery and get an idea of conservation work being done to help these highly endangered sea creatures. Spend time on the island’s white sandy beach or go snorkeling, in the shallow waters off the island, enjoy the corals and the marine life. Retrace your journey in the mid afternoon. En route you will have a chance to spot birds at Tukong Ara Island, a protected islet that is a breeding colony for various species of terns.

Day 12: Kuching – Mulu

Early morning fly from Kuching to Mulu to arrive at one of the jewels of Borneo, Mulu national park. In the afternoon enjoy a scenic walk exploring the amazing caves in Mulu National Park. Most evenings at sundown, a spectacular exodus of about 2 million of bats can be observed as they leave the cave in search of food, afterward return to accommodation.

Day 13: Mulu

In the morning, proceed by longboat upriver to Wind Cave with its impressive ‘King’s Chamber’. The also impressive Clearwater Cave provides a habitat for unique species of plants. One of these, the one-leafed plant can only be found at Mulu. Near Clearwater Cave there is a wonderful swimming area shaded by giant rainforest trees. Enjoy a simple picnic or packed lunch. After lunch proceed to Long Litut (1 hr boat ride). Start trekking to Camp 5 (3 hrs) through a mixed dipterocarp and riparian forest. You will Camp/Overnight at Camp 5 which offers open, basic dormitory accommodation with basic common toilet facilities in a beautiful jungle setting.

Day 14: Mulu

This Morning starts your trek of the headhunters trail to Kuala Terikan (5 hrs). Head down river by boat to Rumah Penghulu Sigah a local Iban longhouse. The journey takes 2-3 hours, depending on the water level. You will sleep in the longhouse, after a full day of adventure.

Day 15: Mulu – Kuching

Depart from the longhouse by boat (1½ hrs) to Nanga Medamit. Then proceed to Limbang Town (1 hr) by van. Drop off at the airport for flight to kuching. At Kuching enjoy your stay at the Hotel, breakfast in the morning and onward to your next adventure.
